EU and US set to resolve dispute over aid to Airbus and Boeing, Corporate News

PARIS (Agefi-Dow Jones) – The United States and Europe are on the verge of resolving the conflict that has opposed them for more than 17 years on the aid granted to the aeronautical groups Airbus and Boeing, reported Monday evening the Financial Times, citing people close to the negotiations.

According to the British daily, an agreement could be announced this Tuesday morning, unless a last minute obstacle were to appear. This agreement would take the form of a commitment over several years on grant limits.

Contacted by the Agefi-Dow Jones agency, spokespersons for Airbus, Boeing, the European Commission and the US Trade Representative, were not immediately available.

The United States and the European Union accuse each other of having granted illegal aid to aircraft manufacturers Boeing and Airbus for more than 17 years. As part of this dispute, the World Trade Organization (WTO) allowed both sides to impose tariffs. At the end of 2019, the United States was authorized to impose customs taxes on nearly $ 7.5 billion of imported goods and services. In a mirror procedure, the WTO allowed the European Union a year later to impose tariffs on 4 billion dollars of imports from the United States.

In March, the two camps nevertheless decided to mutually suspend these tariff measures for a period of four months in order to find a final agreement on this dispute.
