Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The case of Covid-19 in Indonesia is indeed increasingly worrying. After setting a record high on Saturday (03/07/2021) with an additional 27,913 daily cases, yesterday, Monday (05/07/2021), the Ministry of Health recorded an additional 29,745 Covid-19 cases.
This is the highest record for the addition of daily Covid-19 cases since the start of the pandemic in March 2020. Thus, the total number of Covid-19 cases in Indonesia has reached 2,313,829.
The surge in Covid-19 cases in the last few weeks has inevitably prompted the government to take stricter steps, namely by implementing the Emergency Community Activity Restriction (PPKM) starting from Saturday, July 3 2021 to July 20 2021 in Java and Bali.
It turns out, the spike in Covid-19 cases did not only occur in Indonesia, but there were also a number of other countries experiencing the same thing, anywhere? Here’s the list.
1. Russia
Russia is one of the countries currently experiencing a fairly severe corona infection. On Sunday (4/7/2021) the Red Bear Country reported 25,000 additional daily positive cases of Covid-19 which was also accompanied by a death toll of 663 people.
With this addition, the country’s cumulative Covid-19 cases have reached 5.5 million and 136,000 deaths.
In this addition, the Russian capital, Moscow, is known to be one of the epicenters of the spread of the corona virus. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said that the Delta variant now accounts for 90% of the city’s new cases.
To prevent further infection, Sobyanin ordered to tighten mobility. He asked non-frontline workers to stay at home and limit restaurant operations.
Meanwhile Russia’s second largest city, St Petersburg, today recorded 101 deaths. St Petersburg itself is receiving international attention after spectators at the Euro 2020 football match held in the city were reported to have contracted Covid-19.
The city in the Baltic Sea itself is known to get seven matches for organizing matches.
2. English
The UK is also a country that has reported a fairly high spike in new cases in recent days. On Sunday, Queen Elizabeth’s Country reported a spike in daily cases of 24,248 infections.
Despite having a leading vaccination rate, the UK admits it is overwhelmed by the number of new infections. Prime Minister (PM) Boris Johnson has finally taken steps to extend lockdown nationwide until July 19.
The former Mayor of London said that currently the UK is quite overwhelmed in fighting the Delta variant which is spreading massively. The variant that originally appeared in India was also considered more dangerous.
“Now we don’t know the exact extent to which it will lead to additional deaths but, clearly this is a serious matter, a serious concern,” he said.
In total, the UK has recorded 4.8 million cases of Covid with 128,000 deaths since the pandemic struck.
