For the first time John Lawton and Ken Hensley performed “July Morning” in front of a Bulgarian audience a few years ago.

John Lawton, the legendary singer of July morning, died on June 29, announced the former mayor of Kavarna Tsonko Tsonev.
Lawton became popular in old age in Bulgaria, where a kind of cult of this song and the ritual meeting of the sunrise on the beach was formed. Tsonko Tsonev was friends with the deceased and he was a frequent guest in Kavarna.
The legendary vocalist of “Uraya Heep” passed away at the age of 74 after a short illness. Only a few days ago Tsonev made a concert for July 1 – July Morning. “John Lawton failed to come, but the memories of past years on that date remain with him,” said Tsonko.

John Lawton passed away shortly before he turned 75 on July 11. He was born in Halifax, England. He began his musical career in the North Shields in the early 1960s with The Deans, who decided that John should be the singer. He then joined West One and later Stonewall.

In 1969 he moved to West Germany, where he was offered a job as a singer in the cult German rock band “Lucifer Friend”, with which he recorded 9 albums. In 1976, he joined the band Uraya Heap, with whom he recorded the albums “Innocent Victim”, “Firefly”, “Fallen Angel” and “Live ’79” and for 4 years gave a concert “in Europe and the United States.
Throughout his long career, John has worked with some of the biggest names in rock, including Roger Glover – “Butterfly Ball” live at the Royal Albert Hall in 1975 with David Coverjale, Glenn Hughes, Ian Gillan and Twiggy. John Lawton is popular in Bulgaria as a singer of the song “July Morning”. Since 2004 he has been annually performing the song at the concerts in Kavarna – Kaliakra Rock Fest, which take place at dawn on July 1. He often participates in other concerts in the country.
In January 2012, he recorded an album with Diana Express.
