Lapan researcher Andi Pangerang explained, aphelion is a natural phenomenon where the position of the Earth is at its furthest point from the Sun.
“So, every year the Earth is at its closest distance to the Sun (perihelion) which occurs every January and is at its furthest distance from the Sun (aphelion) which occurs every July,” Andi said as quoted on the Lapan website, Sunday (4/7/). 2021).
This happens because the Earth’s orbit is not completely a perfect circle, but rather an ellipse with an ellipse of about 1/60.
Andi revealed that the aphelion and perihelion moments of the last decade to the next decade occur around 13-15 after the solstice of the sun.
He also explained that in general there is no significant impact when the Earth is far from the Sun.
He conveyed that cold temperatures in the morning that occurred recently and later until August were common in the dry season. That’s because there is little cloud cover, so no heat from the Earth’s surface is absorbed by the Sun’s light and released at night that is reflected to the Earth’s surface by clouds.
“Given the Sun’s current position in the northern hemisphere, the air pressure in the northern hemisphere is lower than the southern hemisphere experiences winter,” he said.
Therefore, the wind is blowing from the south to the north and currently the wind is blowing from the direction of Australia, which is experiencing winter.
The impact is the effect of decreasing temperature, especially on the islands of Java, Bali and Nusa Tenggara, which are located south of the equator, which is currently happening.
Andi said that the aphelion phenomenon did not affect the heat received by the Earth. This is because heat from the Sun is distributed throughout the Earth with the most significant distribution affecting the wind pattern.
“Given that the wind is blowing from the south, which is winter, we will feel colder temperatures,” he said.
In addition, the apparent diameter of the Sun will be smaller than usual, averaging 15.73 arc minutes or a decrease of 1.68%.
