The Porsche Cross is Porsche’s electric mountain bike, and it already has a price in Spain – Electric bikes – Hybrids and Electric

At the same time that Porsche presented to the public the country-style version of its first electric car, the Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo, the German firm unveiled two of its signature electric bicycles as a complement. Both models have been developed by Porsche in conjunction with specialist ROTWILD, a reputed German manufacturer of off-road bicycles.

By the time they were announced, Porsche did not disclose the price of the same for the Spanish market, but inquiring among the accessories catalog on the Porsche website we have come across both models, and they are available for purchase in Spain.

Among the two models, the one that stands out the most is the Porsche Cross, its electric mountain bike, since we remember that this type of electric bicycle is the most popular in our country, where Porsche offers the Cross for a price of 8,549 euros. The other electric bike is the Porsche Sport, aimed at a more asphalt use, and its price amounts to 10,158 euros.

Both models use the same electrical scheme. It is about the reputed Shimano STEPS EP-8, whose electric motor yields the maximum 250 W of power in the European Union together with 85 Nm of torque, which guarantees to reach the maximum 25 kilometers per hour allowed by law in the European market in a matter of seconds.

The battery is also supplied by Shimano, and has a capacity of 504 Wh on the Sport and 630 Wh on the Cross. Porsche says it has a range of about 125 kilometers in ECO mode and about 75 in BOOST mode for the Cross on a full charge, while the Sport will average 100 and 50 kilometers in the same modes due to its lower capacity. It will take a total of about 5 hours through a household outlet.

The deployment of components that ROTWILD and Porsche have made is at the height of the price, as we find an elaborate double suspension scheme with a central FOX spring and a Magura front fork with 100 millimeters of travel each.

It is curious that up to this point both models share all the mentioned components, since the Porsche Sport must be one of the few electric bicycles oriented to use mainly on the road that has full suspension. It is a not widely used solution for bicycles of this type, since in addition to making them more expensive, it also increases their weight, although Porsche states that in neither case did their models exceed 22 kilos.

The braking team is also in charge of Hillock with hydraulic MT Trail with four-piston calipers for the Cross, while for the Sport they opt for MCi, also from Magura. Transmission returns to the hands of Shimano, who equips the Porsche Cross with a 12-speed Shimano XT for the mountain model and a SHIMANO Di2 11-speed electronic gearbox for the more urban model.
