More than a thousand Afghan soldiers have fled to Tajikistan – in the world

More than a thousand more Afghan troops fled to neighboring Tajikistan early Monday morning, the Tajik National Security Committee reports.

As U.S. and other Western troops continue to withdraw from Afghanistan, the Taliban have launched a number of large-scale offensive operations in the north of the country in recent weeks, including the main border crossing point with Tajikistan.

1037 government troops have fled to Tajikistan to save Tajikistan after fighting the Taliban at night on Monday, the Tajik National Security Committee said.

“Given the principle of good neighborliness and the position of non-interference in Afghanistan’s internal affairs, Afghan government forces have been allowed to enter Tajik territory,” the committee said in a statement released by the official Khovar news agency.

The statement said that six districts in the north-eastern province of Badashhan, bordering Tajikistan, have now come under Taliban control.

More than 300 Afghan troops have already fled to Tajikistan last weekend.
