It is no longer enough to get a Slovak double. The COVID-19 pandemic significantly disrupted the income of our acting master ŠK Slovan Bratislava. The white leadership put everything on one card. By succeeding on the international scene, he wants to minimize the losses incurred.

Anti-epidemic measures in connection with the organization of sporting events in Slovakia are among the strictest in Europe. In the green regions, a maximum of a thousand people can come to football, in the yellow – where Bratislava currently belongs – five hundred. The size and security of the stadium does not play a role. Neither did the fans be vaccinated or overcame COVID-19.
“The biggest problem for us is the current restrictions, which cause us huge financial losses. Today we are talking about millions in losses, which is becoming unbearable. Since the outbreak of the pandemic, we have played three matches with a capacity of 50%, two matches with a maximum visit of a thousand people, and one match with a maximum capacity of 500 people.
All other matches were closed to the spectators. The operation of the stadium is demanding, in times of zero income it has an impact on the whole club. Support for sport in Slovakia is very weak, ” said Ivan Kmotrík Jr., General Manager of Slovan Bratislava, at a press conference.
THE ONLY CHANCE
It is difficult to fight the economic impact. Especially in times of stagnant transition market. In Slovan today, they see sports success as the only way to improve the economic situation.
“All countries are looking for a way to open sporting and cultural events. This is not the case in Slovakia. We need to find ways to compensate for the losses. The pandemic has affected the whole world and it is very difficult to sell a player today. We have only one chance left to keep the club alive, and that is to fight in European competitions. Unfortunately, without much support from the spectators, who would definitely help us in these matches.
We want to do our best to qualify for the group stage of one of the three European competitions. We know it will be challenging, we are aware of the strength of our opponents. At the same time, I trust our implementation team and players, ” remarked the first white man.
GREIF LEAVES
Slovan Bratislava tried to behave sensibly on the transfer market. This means hiring experienced players who are able to help fulfill their ambitions not only on the domestic but also on the international scene with the least possible funds spent.
“In the transfer market, we worked to meet our short-term goal. I am glad that we managed to get Georgian football players – defender Guram Kashiu, midfielder Jaba Kankava, goalkeeper Adrián Chovan and Czech winger Jaromír Zmrhal.

“The situation in Slovakia is difficult. I don’t understand that there can be very few spectators in this beautiful stadium. We see the direction in which Europe is moving. As a coach, I will always have the greatest demands on the strength of the staff, but I perceive the situation in the club.
I’m not blind or deaf. I know what we can afford. We wanted to strengthen the team under reasonable circumstances. I know Kashiu and Kankavu. They are professionals. I believe that with my game I will show people that it was the right decision to engage them.
The same goes for Zmrhal and Chovan. I am convinced that these players will make us better. Our goal is to succeed on the European stage. We do not want to win only in Slovakia, although it will be increasingly difficult here.
