The economist Prof. Steve Hanke, who is credited with being the father of the Bulgarian currency board, called for this on Nova TV from Baltimore. According to him, dubious economists are throwing dust in people’s eyes by offering the euro, but it smells like fraud everywhere.
You have a currency board system that stopped hyper-inflation in Bulgaria and stabilized it. The Bulgarian should ask himself why you need to enter the eurozone, since the currency board is working well, he added.
If one wants to understand what the consequences will be and why it is dangerous for Bulgaria to replace the lev with the euro, look at Greece, which is facing one of the biggest banking and financial crises. When there is a currency board, there is fiscal discipline. Bulgaria now has the lowest foreign debt. Joining the euro will cause a boom in corruption. Nobody obliges Bulgaria to do it, here I see shadows of corrupt people. It is interesting whether some of the people on the Magnitsky list were not active for the entry of the euro.
