At the vaccination center in MartiniPlaza in Groningen, twenty people were vaccinated with AstraZeneca instead of Moderna, for which these people had received an invitation. The GGD regrets the incident, the GGD Groningen writes on its website website. The error came to light when the preparation of the injections revealed that two ampoules of AstraZeneca had been prepared.
It concerns people who had an injection appointment on Saturday between 9.10 and 9.35 am. The GGD has personally informed them of the mistake. GGD Groningen has reported the incident to the RIVM health institute. “Measures have now been taken to prevent such an incident in the future”, according to GGD Groningen. The GPs of the twenty people are informed of the incorrect vaccination.
It is not the first time that people have been accidentally vaccinated with a different vaccine than the one they were invited to. In mid-June, four people at the GGD Hollands Noorden were also given AstraZeneca instead of Moderna.
AstraZeneca causes a serious side effect in very rare cases. This concerns blood clots in combination with a shortage of platelets.
