– We received a message at 06.26 from the harbor just outside Herøya in Porsgrunn that a watercraft was broken and that a person was badly injured on land next to it. The person was taken care of by an ambulance and taken to hospital, says operations manager Trond Egil Groth in the South-East police district.
Herøya is a peninsula in Porsgrunn municipality in Telemark.
The police do not know how badly injured the person who was taken to hospital is.
Heard a loud bang
Freelance photographer Theo Aasland Valen has spoken to witnesses who were sleeping in a boat nearby when the accident happened.
– They said that they heard a loud bang, and went out to see what had happened. Then they saw the person, and went away to help, says Valen.
Police are now investigating whether more people may have been involved in the accident.
– We are investigating to find out if there were more people on the jet ski when it happened. We interrogate reporters to us and possibly other witnesses, we search the area and have notified Sea King helicopter that will arrive shortly, Groth says just before 07.00.
– Is there a suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs?
– We have no comment on that at the moment, says Groth.
