The DFB Cup is one of the first highlights of the 2021/22 soccer season. The first round of the DFB Cup will take place from 6 to 8 August 2021. The draw will take place at the beginning of July. As the winner of the Badischer Pokal, SV Waldhof Mannheim has qualified for the DFB Cup for the third time in a row. The Mannheim team failed in the first round at Eintracht Frankfurt in 2019 and at SC Freiburg in 2020. Will there be a duel with the reigning cup winners Borussia Dortmund or the record cup winners FC Bayern Munich in 2021? In addition to SVW, the Bundesliga clubs TSG Hoffenheim, SC Freiburg and VfB Stuttgart from Baden-Württemberg, as well as the second division clubs Karlsruher SC and SV Sandhausen, are taking part in the DFB Cup.

DFB-Pokal: When does the draw take place and which clubs take part in the first round?

The draw for the first round of the DFB Cup will take place on Sunday, July 4th at 6:30 p.m. The ARD will broadcast these live on free TV and free of charge in the live stream. “Losfee” is ARD expert Thomas Broich. Stephanie Müller-Spirra will be the moderator and Peter Frymuth will be there live as the drawing director. Who takes part in the DFB Cup? All clubs from the 1st and 2nd Bundesliga have qualified directly for the DFB Cup, as have the four best-placed teams in the 3rd division.

In addition, there are the regional cup winners and three clubs from the three regional associations with the largest number of members. A total of 64 teams take part in the DFB Cup. The DFB-Pokal will also be broadcast live in full on the pay TV broadcaster Sky in the 2021/22 season. ARD and Sport1 also show selected games live on free TV and free of charge in the stream.
