Stig Broeckx continues to take steps. The unfortunate ex-pro cyclist will soon be back on the racing bike.

Broeckx was particularly hard on the 2016 Baloise Belgium Tour. The rider was in a coma for weeks, but in the meantime has come a long way towards a normal life. A life as a professional is no longer possible, but Broeckx wants to ride a race again soon.
“Last year he indicated that he wanted to be an ambassador for our fund,” said neurologist Marcel Aries of the Maastricht University Hospital. “So he supports us in our work. The next step in his rehabilitation process is that he wants to cycle again for a large part. On September 11 there is the tour ‘De Hel van de Kempen’, which departs from Dessel, and he will try to cycle 30 kilometers there.”
Broeckx already advertised the race on his Instagram page, which consists of four distances: 74km, 93km, 122km and 146km. He is involved in the Maastricht Brain Battle project, which aims to focus more attention on brain injuries in the intensive care unit.
