Iran’s Bushehr nuclear power plant (NPP), which closed due to technical problems two weeks ago, has returned to operation, state television reported on Saturday.
A spokesman for the Iranian Ministry of Energy said the Bushehr NPP, Iran’s only nuclear power plant, had resumed generating electricity.
A spokesman for the ministry did not reveal exactly what problems the NPP had fixed, but another Iranian government agency reported that the NPP generator had been repaired.
The Iranian authorities warned this year that the Bushehr NPP may have to close because US sanctions prevent it from providing the equipment needed for the repairs.
The Bushehr NPP operates on uranium produced in Russia and is monitored by the United Nations International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
Iran’s only NPP in Bushehr began construction by German engineers in the 1970s before the Islamic Revolution, but was completed by Russia in 2011.
