The number of positive tests is more than twice as high as last Saturday, when RIVM reported 556 new infections.
It is the fourth consecutive day that the number of infections has risen. On Friday, the daily figure had already risen to 952 (after correction). The number of average infections over the last seven days is now 740, compared to 651 last Saturday.
Amsterdam had the most positive tests. 89 infections were detected in the capital. In Rotterdam, 77 people tested positive. There were 52 in Enschede, as well as in Groningen. 33 new infections were registered in Breda on Saturday.
RIVM reported one death on Saturday, in Enschede. On Friday there were seven, the highest number in a month. It does not mean that those people had died in the 24 hours before, because it can sometimes take a while before the death of a corona patient is registered.
Fewer and fewer corona patients in hospitals
The decline in the number of corona patients in hospitals continues. Hospitals treated 230 people on Saturday because of Covid-19, the disease caused by the corona virus. On Friday there were 248.
There are still 128 corona patients in the nursing wards, 12 less than a day earlier, according to data from the National Coordination Center for Patients Spreading (LCPS). The number of Covid patients in intensive care units fell by 6 to 102. On September 22 last year, the intensive care units last had less than a hundred corona patients under their care.
Few new corona patients still need to be admitted to hospitals. Intensive care units have no new admissions for the fourth time in five days. Eight people were admitted to a nursing ward, similar to the previous days.
