Sagan came to the finish line in 119th position with a deficit of 18:37 min. He is still in 7th place in the scoring competition. He lost another 20 points to leader Mark Cavendish, but the distance from all other sprint specialists remained the same.
The second place was taken in the stage with a length of 249.1 km from Vierzon to Le Creusot by the Belgian Jasper Stuyven from Trek-Segafredo with a gap of 1:20 min, the third place went to the Danish Magnus Cort from EF Education-Nippo with a deficit of 1:47 minutes. At the same time, the Dutchman Mathieu van der Poel from Alpecin-Fenix came to the finish in 4th place, thus consolidating his lead in the competition for the yellow jersey for the ongoing leader.
“I was looking forward to today’s stage. I knew it might be the only chance for an escape and for a cyclist with my way of racing. I managed to disengage from my opponents. I knew I would have to get rid of better climbers. I was still on the second prize. he was just trying to get points, but then I found out I had a solid lead, the miles went by and I felt good, I’ve already won on the Gire and Vuelte, but these are the biggest races in the world, and after a while I’ll find out what I did, “ said the victorious Mohorič at the finish.
Cyclists completed the longest stage on the Tour de France on Friday in 23 years. The initial half of the track had a flat character, in the second part there were already hills, only the complete end was flat again. With almost no wind, it was not possible to create an escape of the day for a long time. Only after an hour of fighting and about 50 km after the start did the 29-member group separate.
There were four riders from the first twenty of the standings at the start. Van der Poel in a yellow T-shirt, third Wout van Aert from Jumbo-Visma, eleventh Kasper Asgreen from Deceuninck-QuickStep and nineteen Vincenzo Nibali from Trek-Segafredo. Peter Sagan did not escape, Bora-hansgrohe was in front as the only Patrick Konrad.

The situation did not suit the UAE Team Emirates, especially with the second Tadej Pogačar, but nevertheless the lead of the leading group stretched to more than seven minutes. The leader of the scoring competition, Mark Cavendish from Deceuninck-QuickStep, was also in the escape, and no one complicated his life at the speed premium in the middle of the track. He added 20 points to his account and consolidated his first place in the fight for the green jersey.
Five mountaineering bonuses were prepared on the track, and from the first arrival in the hills, Mohorič began to clearly demonstrate that he was interested in wearing a dotted jersey the next day. The Slovenian champion was the first to pass the rank on the first two bonuses of the fourth category and subsequently on the premium of the third category. At the ascent to the highest point of the track, which was a 5.7 km long Signal d’Uchon with an average slope of 5.6%, Mohorič found himself alone at the head 18 km in front of the finish with a lead of more than a minute. He did not lose in the end.
Van der Poel maintained the overall lead 30 seconds ahead of van Aert. Pogačar dropped from second to 5th place in the ongoing evaluation.
Slovenian Primož Roglič spent a bad day. The second man in the overall classification of last year’s Tour, after a difficult fall in the 3rd stage, did not stay in the peloton and lost three minutes and 50 seconds to the other climbers.
