Robin Quaison’s contract with Mainz expired at the end of June / beginning of July. The Swede has been rumored to several different clubs, but according to himself, he and the club have also talked a bit about an extension.
A couple of days ago, Quaison was rumored to be close to an agreement with Al-Ettifaq Club in Saudi Arabia, and now Mainz confirms that Quaison will not stay in Mainz.
– We think he is set to move. We have decided to release Robin now, says the club’s sports director Christian Heidel general newspaper.
Two other aspects are mentioned as reasons why there will not be an extension. First, Quaison’s wage demands do not fit in with Mainz’s plans to cut wages. In addition, the squad must be slimmed down.
During his time in Mainz, Quaison scored 34 goals and twelve assists in 130 games.
