The NFL has fined the Washington Football team a heavy fine. The reason is a working conditions investigation after allegations of sexual harassment in the workplace by the Washington Post had been uncovered in the previous year. Owner Dan Snyder is also withdrawing from the day-to-day business of the franchise.
An independent investigation conducted by attorney Beth Wilkinson in July 2020 concluded – and gave the team a bad testimonial.
“For many years the working conditions of the Washington Football Team – in general, and especially for women – have been very unprofessional,” said the NFL. Bullying and intimidation were the order of the day and there was a culture of fear. “Numerous female employees have experienced sexual harassment and a general lack of respect.”
The franchise has to pay a fine of ten million dollars, the sum goes to organizations that work against bullying, among other things. In addition, Tanya Snyder, the recently appointed co-CEO wife of owner Dan Snyder, will take over day-to-day operations and represent the team in the league in the coming months.
“I have not recognized the extent of the problems and my role in allowing such a culture,” Snyder said in a statement. As the owner, he is responsible for the working conditions in the team: “I’m really sorry. I can’t turn back time, but I promise that nobody who works here will experience anything like this again as long as Tanya and I are the owners of the team . “
