It has been almost half a year since Joe Biden took over the presidency – and the challenges have been in line for the 78-year-old. Pandemic handling and vaccination of Americans are just two hot political potatoes that the president has got in his lap.
Then it is no wonder that there is not much time to nurture the relationship with the wife. In a new and large interview with Vogue, the couple says that it has become more difficult to nurture love after they moved into the presidential residence.
They are both busy on opposite sides, so it is difficult to find time for each other, says the first lady. Yet there is a tradition they try to keep alive.

– I think we have to try a little harder to find time for each other. Even having dinner together: Sometimes we eat on the balcony, last night we ate in the yellow oval room. It is still part of the day we set aside time for, and we still light candles, we still have the conversations, and put the phones away, says Jill Biden to the magazine.
Joe Biden, for his part, says that the move to the White House has changed their marriage, in the sense that it has led them to spend much more time apart.
– I miss her. I’m really proud of her. But it is not that we can continue as we used to. When we lived in Delaware and got married, we used to go to a local bed and breakfast alone, to make sure we had a romantic time to just get away and be with each other, the president tells Vogue.

The American president and his wife like to travel together, but the role of president means that the job always comes first – no matter where they are.
Historic first lady
Jill Biden is also working full time. The First Lady has worked as a teacher and has taught English and writing throughout her career – including the eight years her husband was Vice President under Barack Obama.
She has not given up that job since her husband became president. In fact, she is the first first lady ever to have had a job alongside her role as first lady.
– When I became a second lady (the wife of the vice president, journ.anm.) – and there was so much I wanted to do – I always said: “I will never waste this platform”, says Jill Biden to Vogue.
