Klikwarta.com, Tulungagung – The current transition season is not only about the spread of Covid-19, dengue fever (DHF) is slowly starting to attack and infect residents in Tulungagung Regency.
Although until now the number is not significant and there have been no reported fatalities, this disease should be watched out for especially in the Covid-19 pandemic situation.
The Head of the Health Service through the Section Head (Kasi) for the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (P2PM), Muhroji said, the spike in cases occurred in January and March. Namely reaching 21 and 25 cases. Meanwhile, in February there were 19 cases, April 11 cases, May 12 cases, and mid-June 2 cases.
“We found two cases of death in March. Indeed, March is the highest for case findings throughout 2021,” he explained.
Muhroji continued, the high number of dengue cases in January and March was triggered by seasonal changes. The erratic weather due to changing seasons is what makes the mosquito development cycle faster.
“Weather is the main factor, as in previous years. Considering that this mosquito vector likes a clean environment and clean water too, it is usually obtained from rainwater that enters open containers around the house,” he explained.
However, when compared to 2020 with the same period, the number of dengue cases is relatively lower. In 2020, during the same period, dengue cases reached 185 cases with 3 deaths.
This is due to the mosquito breeding cycle. In addition, in 2020 there were often weather anomalies, so that it suddenly rained during the dry season. Of course this has an impact on the breeding of mosquitoes.
Furthermore, said Muhroji, by analogizing the cycle of mosquitoes usually laying eggs at the end of the dry season. Furthermore, the open containers that have been containing mosquito eggs will be filled with rain water when the rainy season arrives. That’s when the mosquito eggs will process into larvae and develop into adult mosquitoes. So that when the transition season arrives there is a spike in cases of dengue fever findings.
The community is expected to adopt a healthy lifestyle, and routinely carry out Mosquito Nest Eradication (PSN) in their respective environments. While related to fogging activities, he admitted that he had not carried out these activities considering the number of cases found was still quite under control.
Therefore, as the Tulungagung Regency Government, he asked residents to remain vigilant by implementing the 3M movement, namely Closing water reservoirs, Draining, and Recycling used plastic items where mosquitoes lay eggs.
“If there are families, both toddlers and children who have a high fever, immediately go to the nearest hospital or health center,” he urged.
