In order to look for areas where more sustainable energy can be generated, the Netherlands has been divided into thirty energy regions in the 2019 Climate Agreement, the Regional Energy Strategies. They have now submitted their first definitive plan, but they will be revised in the coming years: all regions must have completed a ‘RES 2.0’ by 2023.
It is the intention that by 2030 all RESs together will generate 35 terawatt hours of green electricity. In addition, the largest amount of sustainable electricity will come from offshore wind turbines by then.
