The authorities of the Autonomous District of Chukotka reported on Thursday, July 1, snowfall in some of its villages. The thickness of the layer, however, did not exceed one centimeter.

After an unprecedented heat wave in Moscow and its region last week, Russia experienced its first snows on July 1. A phenomenon observed far from the capital.
It was the authorities of the Autonomous District of Chukotka, on the borders of the Russian Far East, which observed snowfall in some of its villages in midsummer:
“This July 1, the snow visited the Chukotka,” the authorities indicate on Instagram. “A beautiful start to July, isn’t it?”
Hostile climate region
The thickness of the layer of snow did not exceed a centimeter, and it did not hold. Currently, it is three degrees Celsius in the regional capital, Anadyr, which has a population of nearly 15,000, or just over a third of the total population of the Autonomous District.
Located largely beyond the Arctic Circle, Chukotka is renowned for its extreme climatic conditions and has the lowest population density of any Russian region (0.07 people per square kilometer).
