Renault Turns On Classic Cars To Beat The Electric Vehicle Market

Liputan6.com, Jakarta – Renault has announced a more ambitious strategy related to the electric vehicle market, Wednesday (30/6/2021). The French manufacturer will bet on a new version of its iconic small car from the past to catch up with the Volkswagen in the fast-growing green car sector.

The chief executive of Renault, Luca de Meo, explained that his party will launch 10 electric vehicles by 2025. While the electric model will account for 90 percent of all Renaul models by 2030, and eliminate dependence on hybrid engines.

Renault bets on an electric version of its classic compact car, Renault 5 which was discontinued in the 1990s, and will capture the imagination of today’s drivers when it goes on sale in the first half of 2024.

During a virtual presentation, the company also offered a glimpse of its new electric 4ever. Two sources who are with the company say this will be a revival of the retired Renault 4 hatchback.

“Today is a historic acceleration of the EV strategy Renault Group,” de Meo said in a statement.
