Search operation in Geilo – woman in her 30s found dead

A woman in her 30s from Western Norway has been found dead after being reported missing in Geilo on Wednesday afternoon.

A search operation was launched for the woman at 5.20 pm, and police, rescue helicopters and volunteers participated.

Then the woman had last been seen at Prestholdtrappa in Prestholtstølan six hours earlier.

At 21.37, a rescue helicopter reported that the missing person had been found in a very impassable terrain, the Southeast police district informs on Twitter. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene, picked up and flown out.

Sent for autopsy

The woman’s relatives were notified on Thursday night.

– The police want to thank all the volunteers and are now investigating the case further, they wrote at 22.15.

On Friday morning, head of investigation Kari Birgit Møllerplass states that the investigation is underway. The woman has been sent for an autopsy, the police have questioned witnesses and photos of the site have been secured.

– The crew who were out looking for the woman last night, are at home sleeping. Therefore, I am not completely up to date on where we are. Further investigation will take place throughout the day, Møllerplass states.

– Fell down a slope

Pål Kasper Mikkelsrud in the South-East police district told BT on Friday morning that the police do not suspect anything criminal.

– She has fallen down a cliff and died. The death happened outside the usual hiking trails, he says.

Mikkelsrud says that he is in contact with and follows up on the relatives.
