Claudio Lozano proposed the implementation of a universal basic income of 8,500 pesos

The director of Banco Nación and a reference for the Popular Unity party, Claudio Lozano, said that several leaders of the front met with Alberto Fernández to express their “support for the management.”

At the meeting, he commented, current issues were discussed and, among them, the “improvement of purchasing power”. On this point, he highlighted the proposal of “To guarantee a universal basic income of $ 8,500 for people between 18 and 65 years old in situations of unemployment, informality or monotributistas with incomes lower than the minimum wage.” The goal is that “all households are above the indigence line”, while the proposal would cover “9 million people,” Lozano declared.

In this sense, he pointed out that this income would allow “activating the internal market” and would also open the door to the discussion of workers’ collective agreements.

“This must be articulated with the battle against price makers, who must be disciplined what for the income that is guaranteed is appropriated by the workers and not absorbed by the companies “, he emphasized.

He also said that the proposal was well received by the president: “he stated that it had to be discussed in light of the availability of resources.” Along the same lines, Lozano explained that “an investment of 2.9 percent of the product is needed” to finance the measure.

“We are at the government’s disposal to discuss the numbers. We have approached a proposal to both the President and the Minister of Social Development. We believe that it can be done and that Argentina needs it “, he asserted.
