JawaPos.com – Patients infected with the Delta variant of Covid-19 may experience different symptoms from the original Covid-19 disease when it was first discovered in Wuhan, China. Symptoms in a person infected with the Delta variant from India are similar to those of a severe flu.
Health expert and Chief Covid-19 Officer from the University of Oklahoma, dr. Dale Bratzler said some of the most commonly reported symptoms of being exposed to the Delta variant were headache, sore throat, runny nose and fever. Bratzler said if you experience these symptoms, you must undergo a Covid-19 test.
“Anyone who has these symptoms, I strongly encourage you to get tested, because you could be infected with the Delta variant,” Bratzler told a news conference. The Oklahoman.
Symptoms of Covid-19 can vary greatly from person to person and can include coughing, shortness of breath, fatigue, body aches, loss of taste or smell, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The Delta variant is also thought to be behind the increase in Covid-19 cases in Oklahoma, particularly in the northeastern part of the state.
“The Delta variant now accounts for more than 20 percent of new COVID-19 cases in the US,” Bratzler said. “This is likely to be the main variant in Oklahoma,” Bratzler said.
Currently, the dominant strain of Covid-19 in Oklahoma and across the US is the Alpha variant, which was first identified in the UK. The US has so far vaccinated more than 50 percent of its citizens with various vaccines such as Pfizer, Moderna, and J&J.
