Historical costumes and opera by candlelight – announces the festival ‘Vivat Curlandia!’

The 6th Kivatler-era music and art festival “Vivat Curlandia!” Of the Duke of Kurzeme-Zemgale will take place in Bauska on July 17 and 18. During two days in Bauska Castle, Bauska Culture Center and Bauska St. The Spirit Church will host eight concerts, including a children’s concert “Ancient Musical Instruments” especially for young listeners, as well as the festival “Vivat Curlandia!” special event – the performance of Antonio Sartorio’s opera “Orpheus” (1672) in historical candlelight.

A children’s concert “Ancient Musical Instruments” will take place on July 17 at 1 pm in Bauska Culture Center. The opening concert of the festival “Tre donne belle” will take place in Bauska Castle at 4 pm, with the participation of the medieval music ensemble “Alla francesca” from France. The concert “Solitudes” by the winner of the International Harpsichord Competition “Sigismundus Lauxmin” – harpsichordist Chloé de Guillebon (France) will take place at 6 pm in Bauska Castle.

In the evening of the first day of the festival, at 7.30 pm, the culmination of the festival will be offered – an opera performance by candlelight, when the fascinating story of the Italian composer Antonio Sartorio – the opera “Orpheus” (1672) will be premiered at the Bauska Culture Center. A brilliant line of soloists will take part in the performance of the two-act opera: soprano Ilze Grēvele-Skaraine, Monta Martinsone, Rūta Vosyliūtė (Lithuania), Ieva Pļaviņa, Anete Viļuma, Simona Jocevičiūtė (Lithuania), mezzo-soprano Silvija Sūna, tenor Ansis Bētiņš, bass Edsis Bētiņš, bass as well as the baroque orchestra “Collegium Musicum Riga”, a baroque dance group led by choreographer Guna Ezermale; historical gestures specialist – Katerina Antonenko (United Kingdom / Russia), costume designer – Jelena Forste, set designer – Artūrs Arnis. Festival “Vivat Curlandia!” on the second day, July 18, there will be several free events. The festival will end with a concert “E vivere, e morire” in the restored tower of Bauska Castle at 6 pm, with the participation of the outstanding Latvian tenor Ansis Bētiņš and Italian theorist Mauro Pinciaroli.
