– Canceling Skral Festival is not something we take lightly, the organizers say in a press release.
The festival, which has been held in Grimstad since 2003, has made the difficult decision not to invite to a music party, due to the increase in infection in the city.
–
– The entire organization of around 20 people has worked on a voluntary basis for over a year without taking out as much as a penny in salary. The reward for the effort has always been to be able to gather people in a safe environment at Groos and enjoy the community, music, good drinks, delicious food and Sørlandet with good friends, organizers write.
– It will not be like that. Due to the increased infection situation in Grimstad last week, we have decided to cancel Skral Festival 2021. Although the infection situation may improve next week, FHI announced yesterday that Grimstad must expect “…. to stand in this for at least a week to … ”which naturally becomes difficult as the set-up is a few days away and the festival is in less than a week, it is further stated in the press release.
Organizers inform that they are working hard to move over all agreements until 2022 and will keep the audience continuously updated via websites and social media.
– This was not how the last part of the pandemic was to end, but with the county record of the number of infected per inhabitant in the last two weeks before the start of the festival and an area marked blood red on various overviews, we consider the risk too great to implement, the press release states. .
The public can either save their ticket for next year or contact Ticketmaster and get their money refunded.
– This is nobody’s fault, this is just very very bad timing.
The festival was started in 2003 as a garden party with a budget of 23,000 kroner. Among the artists who have performed are The Game, Sean Paul, Brett Anderson, Sondre Lerche and Thomas Dybdahl.
Last week, Dagbladet wrote that more than 4,000 of Grimstad’s residents are in quarantine, after last week there was a record number of infections in the city.
Municipal chief physician in Grimstad, Vegard Vige, told Dagbladet that they have not yet chosen to introduce any local measures.
– We hold our breath, but it is important to emphasize that the pandemic is not over. We are not over the finish line, he told Dagbladet.
At the same time, he encouraged everyone who lives in the city to follow the infection control advice.
– Stay at home if you feel sick, wash your hands, and keep your distance.
