LFC Women | First reinforcements for the new season

Liverpool FC Women are now preparing for the 2021/2022 season. Contracts from service providers are extended and new additions are presented.

In the last few weeks it was rather turbulent in the club. Some contracts were expiring and the club failed to adequately inform the players. That caused some unrest in the club and on social media. The new coach Matt Beard started his work a few weeks ago and surrounds himself with old companions from the past.

Kearns & Hodson extend their contracts

The offensive players Kearns and Hodson have signed new contracts and are going into the new championship season. Missy Bo Kearns, who has been with the club since the U11, will wear # 7 from next season. She signed her first professional contract in January 2021. Matt Beard thinks highly of Kearns and has known you from his last tenure with Liverpool FC Women.

“The last season was my breakthrough. Shortly after Christmas I got the chance and from my point of view I took it.”

Ashley Hodson is the most experienced player in the LFC Women with 113 appearances. She came in the second championship season on eleven appearances under Matt Beard. “The club want to attack again. Unfortunately, last season did not go as we had hoped and we will draw our conclusions from it. We want to turn the frustration of last season into motivation for the next season.”

Yana Daniels returns

The Dane is moving back to Merseyside after two years in Bristol. Matt Beard knows you well, having coached you at Bristol City last season. The experienced Belgian national player has 44 appearances internationally and scored a total of seven goals for the national team.

Yana Daniels has no doubt about her return: “It feels good to be back. I enjoyed my time at Bristol City but it was very difficult at the end of the season.” Bristol City was relegated at the end of the 2020/2021 WSL season.

Leanne Kiernan is coming from West Ham United

The striker has spent the last three years in London with the Hammers in the Women’s Super League. Matt Beard joined West Ham United back then. He appreciates her versatility and her ability to finish in and out of the box.

For the national team of the Republic of Ireland she mainly plays as a striker. In the last three years with the Hammers, she has shown her skills as a winger.

Leanne Kiernan is looking forward to her new club: “The club has a big name in football and, of course, ambitions. I enjoyed the phone call with Beardie and he convinced me. It’s an exciting time here at the club.”

Megan Campbell is from Manchester City

The veteran defender has cleared a ton of titles with Manchester City over the past five years. She has already played 40 games with the national team of the Republic of Ireland.

Matt Bread found the right words at Campbell: “Matt really wanted me here. It felt great to be needed like that.”

The transfer of Megan Campbell to the Reds definitely ensures that there are more opportunities for defense in the squad.

Another newcomer from Bristol

28-year-old Jasmine Matthews follows her teammate Yana Daniels to the Reds. Jasmine played two seasons with Bristol City in the Women’s Super League. Matt Beard appreciates that she can be used in defense as well as in midfield.

Start of the season in the championship

The new championship season 2021/2022 starts on August 28/29. The exact dates and times will be announced.
