With its red granite and dome, the Austin Capitol dominates the scorching humidity of the Texas capital. On the floors shining like mirrors, a few tourists took photos this late June afternoon in front of the portrait of the hero of Texan independence Davy Crockett, or those of the last governors of the state who adorn the rotunda. The two Chambers of “Seventh tallest building in the world”, when it was built in the late 1880s, are empty. Contrasting with the effervescence of the legislative session which ended at the end of May. Relaxation of laws governing the carrying of firearms, prohibition of abortion from six weeks of pregnancy, attempt to restrict the right to vote, rewriting of the slavery and racist history of the State… The Texas Capitol was the scene bitter ideological battles, almost all won by the Republican camp, which controls all the levers of power there.
