Both coaches chose the formation of 3-4-4 and in the first half it was mainly a tactical battle. The Germans did not allow the initial domestic pressure and visually looked more active.
The English bet on the center, even by the standards, their opponent tried to surprise the English trackers with penetrating passes in the middle of the field.
In the 8th minute, Rice stopped after one of them for the price of a yellow Goretzka card, but it did not rain from a good direct post from a German position.
The home side put themselves ahead 1 – 0 after 16 minutes courtesy of a breakthrough from Neuer, who scored with a stunning volley following a cross from the right wing. Subsequently, the header attempts of the home tracker Maguire did not take place.
