TUI sees “wave of last minute bookings”, two destinations …

Now that the worst of the corona crisis seems to be behind us and more and more parts of Europe are turning green for travel, tour operator TUI has identified “a booking wave that is increasing weekly” for the summer holidays. The capacity of the holiday flights will be increased to 75 percent compared to a normal year.

Traveler confidence began to return from late April, when the ban on non-essential travel was lifted. Added to this were the falling corona figures and the rising vaccination rate. “As a result, TUI has already recorded twice as many bookings for the past two months as during the booking period from November 2020 to April 2021.”

In recent weeks, the European travel card has also become increasingly green and, according to TUI, there has been “a particularly strong wave of last minute bookings, both online and in travel offices”.

Spain and Greece are the absolute toppers for flying holidays. Both countries each have an “unprecedented share of 40 percent of all booked air holidays”. According to TUI, this is because the two countries each have many tourist islands, which were the first to see the corona situation improve. Bulgaria, Turkey and Italy complete the top five of the flight holidays.

Also car holidays

In the beginning, holidays were mainly booked for the car holidays in our own country. In recent weeks there have been many bookings for the traditional top country of France.

“2021 will not be as wonderful as 2019, but the trends of the past few weeks promise the best for the number of holidays that TUI will be able to look back on at the end of August,” TUI summarizes in a press release.

During the summer holidays, TUI flies from five Belgian airports to 63 destinations.
