Tennis, Wimbledon: Sinner stops in the first round, passes Fucsovics | News

In the absolute debut in the London tournament the South Tyrolean is defeated 5-7, 6-3, 7-5, 6-3. Seppi goes on instead

End the adventure right away for Jannik Sinner a Wimbledon: Márton Fucsovics flies in the second round beating him 5-7, 6-3, 7-5, 6-3. The South Tyrolean wins a very complicated first set, but the Hungarian overturns the situation by exploiting the ups and downs of the blue before taking the last decisive set with a crazy ace. Andreas Seppi advances, while Fognini’s match was suspended due to obscurity with the Italian leading 2-0. Nothing to do instead for Marco Cecchinato and Stefano Travaglia.

Nothing to do for Jannik Sinner. The absolute debut of the blue enfant prodige at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club is marked by a defeat against the Hungarian Márton Fucsovics, who wins 5-7, 6-3, 7-5, 6-3 in three hours and enters the second shift. In the young career of the South Tyrolean, grass remains a taboo: in the seven official matches on this surface, in fact, there are five defeats and two victories. The latter in 2019 with Lacko and Fabbiano (in qualifying for the main draw of the Libéma Open).

The South Tyrolean seemed to have started well, winning a very complicated first set 7-5, recovering a break at the beginning and then overtaking, avoiding the tiebreak. But then the music changes radically. The Hungarian returns to the game by exploiting the ups and downs of the blue who does not find the first and in the end, losing his serve three times, he is defeated in the fight of the second set. Fucsovics wins the third set by winning for 7 games to 5 thanks to the only break of the set obtained in the 12th game; in the last game the class of 2001 pulls a backhand out of the hat with applause, but is still caught out of the service by the Hungarian. Total collapse in the last part: three breaks suffered and the Hungarian takes the qualification with a sensational ace. Sinner calls the Challenger but the ball is in nothing.

On the other hand, a good debut in this edition for Andreas Seppi who passes in four sets, with a score of 4-6, 6-4, 7-5, 6-2, against the Portuguese Joao Sousa. After losing the first set due to a game (the ninth) in which he suffers the break to zero, an exemplary comeback arrives by the player from Bolzano, who already in the second set puts on a completely different level of tennis and the Lusitanian succumbs . In the third set: Seppi’s break, then Sousa’s counterbreak immediately but in the twelfth game he doesn’t reach the blue at the tie-break and loses the set 7-5. Finally, in the fourth set, three break points are not exploited by the Portuguese who, in his immediately following turn at bat, is broken. Seppi then takes over and wins.

As for the other Italians in the race today, Fabio Fognini’s match against the Spaniard Albert Ramos-Viñolas is suspended after two sets that saw the Ligurian ahead 7-6 (4), 6-2, who was proving to be in great shape; will recover tomorrow. There was absolutely no history between Marco Cecchinato and Liam Broady. The 6-3, 6-4, 6-0 with which the Briton and number 153 in the world stretches the Palermitan is more than eloquent to describe the decidedly unbalanced challenge in favor of the landlord. Same result, even if with a less heavy score, for Stefano Travaglia: the Ascoli player loses 6-3, 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 against the Spaniard Pedro Martinez and immediately bids farewell to Wimbledon. The balance of this first blue day thus sees three out of four Italians leaving the London tournament who have played their entire match.
