Martial Derynck, Claude Lecourtois, Eugène Lepleux, Marcel Marie are the organizers of this great event which is eagerly awaited.
Martial Derynck launched the idea. He was quickly accompanied by three veterans, Claude Lecourtois, Eugène Lepleux and Marcel Marie and other volunteers who have worked with passion for two years and tirelessly on this project.
What will we be able to see?
The volunteers will present daily soldier objects, uniforms, vintage posters, newspapers, weapons, reconstructed scenes, vintage vehicles and small artillery.
An exhibition of photos “memories of Algeria” with personal photos of veterans is also planned. It will be possible to discover a painting exhibition “landscapes of Algeria”, painted by veterans and by various associations.
A 2.50 by 2.10 m map of Algeria was painted with the names of the boats leaving from Marseille. A panel with the three departments of Ornan, Algiers and Constantinese has already made it possible to register some names of veterans.
Reconstitution
Another highlight of the exhibition is the reconstruction of a 25-meter-long street in Algiers with its shops, but also of a mechta (house in Algeria).
For us, there will be a highlight. The inauguration of the room Philippe Anquetil, who died for France in Algeria on June 19, 1959. The entertainment room will bear his name. It is scheduled for Sunday, August 1 at 11:30 am It is also the meeting with the veterans, they will be able to meet and exchange.
“There are things that we cannot tell and then we also forget. We did not go to Algeria to be heroes, ”emphasizes one of the volunteers.
Testimonials from veterans
A ceremony will take place on Saturday, July 24, 2021 at 4 p.m. to pay tribute to those who died in the Algerian war in the presence of the flag bearers. A presentation of medals and a wreath laying are planned.
Also on the program is a conference called “Algerian war caller” and a film with the collection of testimonies from veterans of Grandcamp-Maisy. This exhibition is organized in partnership with the National Union of Combatants of Grandcamp-Maisy chaired by Jean-Michel Suisse, the Fnaca, the French souvenir, the ACPGCATM, the town hall and Isigny-Omaha-Intercom.
