(lg) The fate of 7-year-old Maximilian from Kempen St. Hubert is currently affecting many people. Not only in the village itself, also fire brigades from all over the republic have become aware of him. The son of a firefighter from Kempen fell ill with meningitis in November 2016, which left permanent damage. Since the beginning of 2017, Maxi, as his mother affectionately calls it, has been considered severely disabled and has been confined to a wheelchair. Now the family needs an elevator in their house, but it costs a whopping € 45,500. Too much for Maxi’s mother, who lives apart from her husband. But Maxi’s 16-year-old cousin didn’t want to stand by and started a crowdfunding campaign with her brother. Numerous supporters quickly found themselves. “We got so much input and feedback, that’s really amazing. The fire brigade’s support association got involved, Traumfänger eV supported us and companies have also agreed to support us.” – says Jennifer Audehm, Maxi’s mother. The family has already collected a good € 28,000, but that is far from being enough. And not only the Friends of the Kempen Fire Brigade gets wind of the action. The soccer team of the fire brigade Krefeld, the “BF Florawache 09”, heard about the action and decided, together with the team from TuS St. Hubert, in which Maxi’s cousin also played, to turn the upcoming friendly game into a benefit game. Under the motto “Separate in colors, united in the matter”, the teams and numerous supporters organized an event at the sports facility in St. Hubert on Sunday, June 27th. When the campaign was announced on Facebook, comrades from Stuttgart-Feuerbach made a donation. At 1 p.m. the kick-off was in front of around 300 spectators in bright sunshine and a warm 28 degrees. Krefeld defeated the TuS St. Hubert team with a 5-0 win, but that was not important. “It was a nice game, the good cause was in the foreground. I think that the TuS St. Hubert and the Krefeld professional fire brigade presented themselves very well here. I hope that a lot came together, a lot of donations went to the donation account.” – says Sven Hox from the “BF Florawache 09”. About 30 minutes after the end of the game, the donation amount was determined. The teams collected a total of € 4,300 with the campaign. An overwhelming sum that moves Maxi’s mother to tears. The soccer game was not the last action for Maxi, however. The charity truck event, which will take place in the neighboring Krefeld in September, has also registered to collect donations and the well-known fire brigade cabaret artist, Günther Nuth, wants to organize an event in favor of Maxi.
