Train from the track at Groningen station: ‘As if we had very bad turbulence’

The train had only just left Groningen main station when it seemed as if one half of the train had gone off the rails.

“It probably went wrong with a switch,” said Ilse, who was evacuated from the train. “The back door of the train was still at the platform.”

Where two railway tracks meet, ‘the train suddenly tumbled to one side’, says Ilse. “It was as if we had very bad turbulence, the train continued for a bit.”

It is not yet clear how the train derailed. As far as is known, there are no injuries. There will be no trains between Groningen and Roodeschool until tomorrow morning.
