China releases videos of robot exploring Mars – News

The CNSA, the Chinese space agency, released new videos of Mars taken by the robot Zhurong that landed on the red planet in May this year.

One of the videos shows, for the first time, how the equipment went down. The camera filmed when the parachutes used to slow down the planet’s entry were released.

Another camera recorded images from the underside of the robot until the completion of the landing at Utopia Planitiada, the region chosen by the scientists for the Chinese mission.

The rover also filmed the descent from its platform after months of traveling through space. The robot’s microphones were still able to record the surrounding sound.

In the sequence, the robot turned its cameras and displayed a wider image of where it was and confirming that it arrived safely.

The July 2020 launch of the Tianwen-1 mission to Mars was a milestone in China’s space program. The remotely controlled equipment by the scientists is intended to look for signs of ancient life, including any signs of groundwater or ice.
