BZ INTERVIEW: Alain Bregy and Oliver Maicher from Energiedienst on the production of green hydrogen in Grenzach-Wyhlen.
. Green hydrogen, i.e. hydrogen generated with regenerative energy, is considered to be the key to the energy transition. Federal Minister of Economics Peter Altmaier (CDU) has already declared that he wants to position the country at the forefront of this technology worldwide. Energiedienst’s real laboratory in Grenzach-Wyhlen is the only project in southern Germany that the federal government is promoting in this hydrogen offensive. Michael Baas spoke to Alain Bregy, responsible for hydrogen at the Energiedienst group, and Oliver Maicher from the real-world laboratory team.
BZ: Mr. Bregy, Mr. Maicher green hydrogen is a key technology of the energy transition. Is that why Energiedienst is investing in this technology?
Bregy: It is. We see green hydrogen as an important component of the energy transition. Decarbonisation, i.e. the carbon dioxide-free economy, cannot actually be achieved without hydrogen. Only this enables the storage of renewable energies, which can then be used in other sectors, in industry or in mobility.
BZ: What distinguishes the real laboratory, why is it funded by the federal government?
Maicher: One plus point is that we have a running system in Grenzach-Wyhlen. This is a good basis for putting the hydrogen issue in a larger context. It is about the full consideration of the sectors, i.e. hydrogen, heating, industry, but also regional traffic with potential customers. Our approach is to strengthen the local and regional thoughts on hydrogen. This also includes social science support.
BZ: There is always great skepticism about new technologies. Is the accompaniment also about …
