British cyclist Chris Froome avoided more serious injuries in Saturday’s opening stage of the Tour de France, which was marked by two mass falls. The other four riders were not so lucky – Jasha Sutterlin, Marc Soler, Cyril Lemoine and Ignatas Konovalovas had to resign from the race. The AFP agency informed.

Thirty-six-year-old Froome from the Israel Start-Up Nation stable fell 8 km before the finish line and had to be treated. Along with the four-time Tour winner, his teammate Reta Hollenstein was also taken to the hospital.
“They both underwent examinations that did not show any fracture. They will be under the supervision of team doctors, their continuation of the race should not be endangered,” stated in the team statement.
