Johnson & Johnson Settles Opioid Lawsuits in New York | 06/27/21

Johnson & Johnson reached a settlement with the US state of New York during the opioid crisis.

The US pharmaceutical company is paying $ 263 million to settle the dispute over its role in distributing addictive pain relievers, at least within New York, J&J said.

New York attorney general Letitia James and two Long Island counties filed the lawsuits against J&J. Johnson & Johnson said the deal fits in with the company’s offer to resolve all opioid lawsuits worldwide for $ 5 billion.

A number of US pharmaceutical companies are accused of having used highly addictive opioids to circulate using aggressive methods. The opioid epidemic has killed half a million people in the United States in the past 20 years.
