Suara.com – Infection Covid-19 experienced a significant spike in cases in all community groups, including pregnant mother.
According to the Indonesian Obstetrics and Gynecology Association (HANDSOME), this indicates the need for increased protection for pregnant women, one of which is by Covid-19 vaccination.
“Covid 19 increases the risk of preterm labor and other pregnancy complications. Although until now there is no scientific data regarding the effectiveness or potential dangers of administering the COVID-19 vaccine for pregnant and lactating women, considering that they are classified as vulnerable population groups. But by getting vaccination during pregnancy will prevent pregnant women with severe symptoms when exposed to COVID-19,” said Prof. Dr. dr. Budi Wiweko, SpOG(K)-FER, MPH, Secretary General of the POGI Central Executive, in a statement received by Suara.com.
Data from the Reproductive Tract Infection Working Group P during April 2020-2021 found that there were 536 cases of Covid-19 in pregnant women.

From these data, about 51.9 percent of them are pregnant women without symptoms and without breathing assistance (OTG). Among them were asymptomatic and without respiratory support (51.9 percent), gestational age above 37 weeks (72 percent), death (3 percent), and ICU care (4.5 percent).
For the safety of pregnant women and fetuses from Covid-19, POGI also calls for support for the implementation of PSBB (Large-Scale Social Restrictions) in the regions, starting from the yellow zone to the black zone.
In addition, it is necessary to update and improve the socialization of guidelines for handling pregnant women and mothers giving birth with Covid-19 through health services.
“We also ask the government to prepare a Covid-19 referral center for mothers and children in every province and district, of course, equipped with negative pressure maternity rooms, maternal isolation rooms, newborn isolation rooms, as well as ICU and NICU,” said the General Chair. POGI, dr. Ari K. Januarto.
He also hopes that the government can increase the coverage of Covid-19 vaccinations throughout Indonesia. With higher vaccination coverage, it is hoped that the district will be able to protect health workers who are pregnant, by regulating the division of working hours, and vaccinating pregnant women at high risk of Covid-19, and pregnant women at low risk.
