For the first time more than 2 euros for a liter of petrol

For the first time, the price of petrol at the most expensive gas stations has risen above 2 euros. It concerns the highest price found in the Netherlands, not the average price.

You usually lose less money at unmanned petrol stations and in other places, but at a manned petrol station along the highway you may have to pay 2 euros for a liter of Euro95/E10, according to an overview of DirectLease Tankservice.

The price for diesel has also never been higher, figures from United Consumers show. A liter costs 1,572 euros.

Oil price rising

Last month already died an old record price from 2012. In January 2020, the liter price came close to that old record, but the price dropped significantly due to the corona crisis. Prices have been climbing again since last fall.

The fact that a refueling is now so expensive is due to the rising oil prices. Where there was previously less demand for fuel due to the corona crisis and oil production was kept low, demand is increasing as many countries are once again able to produce, consume and travel.

Below you can see that the price of petrol is closely related to the price of crude oil. These are average prices, the record price of more than 2 euros per liter is the highest price found at a gas station in the Netherlands.
