Chiesa Makes History at Euro 2020

Federico Chiesa score when Italy beat Austria in Euro 2020. He followed in the footsteps of his father, Enrico Chiesa, by scoring goals in the European Cup.

Duel Italy vs Austria in the round of 16 Euro 2020 held at Wembley Stadium, London, Sunday (27/6/2021) early morning WIB. Italy won 2-1 over Austria in extra time.

After a 0-0 draw in normal time, Italy finally broke the deadlock in the 95th minute through Federico Chiesa. Matteo Pessina then doubled Italy’s lead before Austria hit back through Sasa Kalajdzic.

Federico Chiesa followed in his father’s footsteps, Enrico Chiesa, by scoring in the European Cup finals. It was the first time father and son scored in the tournament’s history.

Federico’s goal came 25 years and 12 days after Enrico’s goal as Italy faced the Czech Republic in the Euro 1996 group stage. Federico wasn’t even born when his father scored that goal at Anfield.

Federico Chiesa scored a goal against Austria in Euro 2020 after receiving Leonardo Spinazzola’s long ball. The Juventus striker had time to control the ball first before releasing a shot from a tight angle with his left foot.

“I stay calm, in this situation, you want to shoot straight at the goal. Instead, I decided to stop the ball and take time before shooting at the target,” Chiesa said of his goal to Sky Sport Italy.

“Austria have important players, they have quality and they have the ball which makes it difficult for us, but I believe we deserved to go through.”

Qualify for the quarterfinals Euro 2020, Italy will compete on Saturday (3/7/2021) early morning WIB at the Allianz Arena, Munich, against the winner of the round of 16 match between Portugal and Belgium. The Belgium vs Portugal match will be played on Monday (28/6/2021) early in the morning WIB.
