José Luis Alonso Coomonte from Zamorano has been awarded the Castilla y León Prize for the Arts 2020. The jury has highlighted his “long and fruitful career”, his “mastery in the use of materials”, especially iron, in addition to his Teaching work.
Teaching work as long as his own artistic career, to which he now adds this Castilla y León award for the arts at a time when Coomonte was back in the limelight after inaugurating last week at the Ethnographic Museum the exhibition “challenge and material ”, In an act in which he thus summarized his career.
The jury also highlights his mastery with iron, especially applied to bars, in an “incessant search to give it shape and beauty”. In addition, his collaboration with “prestigious architects in works of different countries” that has earned him international recognition.
Coomonte joins the list of other illustrious Zamorano who received this award such as Baltasar Lobo, José María “Castilviejo”, Enrique Seco, José María Mezquita or Jesús López Cobos, as well as other important names of culture in Castilla y León such as Concha Velasco , Amancio Prada, Santiago Martín “El Viti” or Lola Herrera
