The 53.8 liters per square meter collected in the city of Alicante during the episode of rains that has affected the Valencian Community this Sunday it is the second highest in 24 hours in a month of May since 1900.
As reported by the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET), the highest record of accumulated rainfall in a month of May in the Alicante capital was the 55.3 liters per square meter that were recorded on May 13, 1947.

In addition, in this episode of rains the 70.6 liters per square meter in L’Atzúbia or the 61 liters per square meter collected in the Alicante-Elche airport that it is the highest in 24 hours in a May in its historical series (1967-2021).
Other notable records have been the 64 liters per square meter collected in Pinoso, 61.2 liters in Rojales and Orihuela, 58.4 liters in Novelda, 51.8 in Elche and 50 in Alcoi.
The rain front evolved throughout Sunday from south to northeast and weakened at dawn as it advanced towards the Balearic Islands, with records that in the first eight hours of this Monday have reached 22 liters in Alicante, 19 in Rojales, 15 liters in Alcoy and the 12 liters per square meter in Elche.
