Mancini’s blues broke the record of minutes without conceding a goal (1168) and of matches without defeat (31)
Not only the quarter-finals of Euro 2020, but also a double, extraordinary record. Mancini’s national team has in fact become the most “unbeatable” in history: in the 89th minute of the match against Austria it was indeed breaking the record of 1143 clean-sheet minutes that had lasted since 1974 and the final result has sanctioned the 31st consecutive profit, leading the coach from Jesi to overcome a legend like Vittorio Pozzo.

Kalajdzic’s goal in the 114th minute interrupted the Azzurri’s unbeaten run in the 1168 minute, but the record remains. The previous one lasted from September 20, 1972 (3-1 victory over Yugoslavia) to June 15, 1975 (3-1 victory over Haiti) and in all matches he was in goal Dino Zoff. In this case, however, from 14 October 2020 (Italy-Netherlands 1-1) to 26 June 2021, there were Donnarumma, Sirigu e Meret.
The last Italian defeat dates back to 10 September 2018 (Portugal-Italy 1-0, in the Nations League): they are 31 races in a row without knockout, one more than those struck by Pozzo between 1935 and 1939 (from Czechoslovakia-Italy 2-1 in the International Cup to Switzerland-Italy 3-1 in a friendly).
A curious record then concerns the church family. Federico and Enrico are in fact there first father-son couple to score in two editions of the European championships: Enrico did it on June 14, 1996, against the Czech Republic, Federico (who at the time was not yet born) exactly 25 years and 12 days later. That of Chiesa Jr. is also the first goal in the history of the Azzurri in extra time for a European.
