Manfredo Álvarez has returned this week to the golden years of Sporting to celebrate in the ‘Manfredoteca’ that next Monday, May 31 are fulfilled 40 years of Abel’s hat-trick against Real Madrid in a second leg of the Copa del Rey quarterfinal.
Abel Díaz Tejerina was a Forward leathery born in Boñar (Lion), brave and committed who played for Sporting for eight seasons. He came to the subsidiary from the Cultural Leonesa after a year on loan at Avilés and ended up playing more than 200 games in the First Division and marking 41 goals.
The sportinguista fans, who baptized him as ‘Abeloski’, will always remember him for that triplet at the Real Madrid stadium (2-3) when the whites were led by Vujadin Boskov and had Stielike, Camacho, Del Bosque, Juanito or Santillana in their ranks. That 1980-1981 season, after eliminating Sevilla in the semifinals, Sporting played their first cup final against FC Barcelona with a defeat at Vicente Calderón (3-1).
