Three municipalities in the Canary Islands among the 15 with the most unemployment in Spain, according to the statistics ‘Urban Indicators 2021’ published this Wednesday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE). Specifically, these are Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Telde and Santa Lucía de Tirajana, the latter two on the island of Gran Canaria.
They are joined by nine belonging to the Community of Andalusia, one in Toledo (Talavera de la Reina), another in Extremadura (Mérida) and the one corresponding to the autonomous city of Melilla.
On the contrary, Pozuelo de Alarcón (Madrid) is the municipality with the highest average income and with the lowest unemployment rate in all of Spain. According to Statistics data, Pozuelo (Madrid) is the municipality in Spain with the lowest average unemployment rate estimated in 2020, with 6.5%, followed by Donostia / San Sebastián (7.1%) and Sant Cugat del Vallès (7.4%).
On the contrary, Linares (Jaén), with 32.5%, followed by Córdoba (with 27.8%) and Granada (26.8%) presented the highest unemployment rates.
After Pozuelo, San Sebastián and Sant Cugat del Vallès, the Madrid municipalities of Las Rozas and Majadahonda also stand out for their low unemployment rates, with 7.5% and 7.7%, respectively. In addition, among the cities with rates below 9% are also Vitoria-Gasteiz, with 7.8% and Getxo, with 8.5%.
Thus, of the 15 municipalities with the lowest average unemployment rates estimated for 2020, six are in the Community of Madrid, three in Catalonia, four in the Basque Country and two in Galicia.
On the other hand, among the top five municipalities with the most unemployment, four are located in Andalusia: Linares, with a rate of 32.5%; Córdoba with 27.8%; Granada with 26.8%; and Alcalá de Guadaira (Seville), with 25.9%.
