Green pass, on vaccinations and tests different rules in the various European countries

On 1 July it enters into force on green pass European, the unique digital certification designed to facilitate safe travel within the EU in the second summer of the pandemic caused by Covid. Thanks to the document, you can prove that you are vaccinated, have a negative test or cured of the coronavirus and thus avoid in principle tests on arrival or quarantine.

“A success story” he defined it Mario Draghi which, however, drew attention to one aspect: internal coordination between members of the European Union and, secondly, between individual EU states and third countries. Because the “digital EU Covid certificate” is unique but the rules imposed by the countries to allow entry into their territory are different. Rules that are good to know before traveling. The information (not yet available for all destinations) can be found on the European Union portal Re-open EU.

Coordination in the use of this green pass must also be addressed, first of all between us and then between us and third countries

Vaccine: one or two doses?

Generally for EU countries, vaccination is considered complete past 14 days from the second dose of vaccine (or single dose for single-dose vaccines such as Johnson & Johnson, albeit for the France time doubled to four weeks). But for some states, vaccination coverage may be sufficient even after the first dose. This is the case of the Croatia: go ahead without further tests if the first Pfizer or Moderna dose taken between 22 and 42 days before is registered on your green pass (which becomes 22 and 84 days from the first dose of AstraZeneca). Also in Austria you can enter with the first dose only, taken at least 22 days before entry (but no more than three months must elapse). The same goes for the Czech Republic.

The certificate of recovery

Green pass holders can enter EU countries without restrictions even if their certificate contains proof of recovery from Covid. In general, less than 180 days must have elapsed from the date of the positive test result but even in this there are differences between countries. In Greece the validity of the certificate is nine months starting from the 20th day following the first positive result, in Spain 11 to 180 days from the first positive result.

The certificate can also be obtained with a negative Covid test: both molecular (usually done within 72 hours of arrival, 48 hours in Spain), or with a quick antigenic (within 48 hours of arrival, 72 hours in France). L’Netherlands accepts only molecular tests.
