The prefecture of Vaucluse is particularly well served by train. It has two stations: a station in the city center and a TGV station, connected to all the major French cities.

Accommodation in the old town

Visits to discover a unique heritage
Former papal city during the fourteenth century, Avignon retains a rich heritage, from this time when it was at the heart of Christian life.
The Papal Palace, the largest Gothic palace in Europe, is of course a must-see, but the Notre-Dame-des-Doms cathedral is also worth a detour, as is the Saint-Martial chapel.

A bike ride to discover the ramparts and the island of Barthelasse
Listed as World Heritage by Unesco, the ramparts of Avignon are very well preserved and provide the opportunity for a great discovery by bike. A bike route, 4.5 km long and completely flat, allows you to go around the ramparts in about 45 minutes.
The route also allows you to join the river shuttle to take the direction of the island of Barthelasse.
The very preserved banks of the island offer beautiful views of the Palais des Papes and the Avignon bridge, on a very accessible route between forests and orchards. Beavers, raptors, herons and cormorants can be observed in particular at certain times of the day.

Local and organic products
While strolling on the island of Barthelasse, stop at La Reboule, a family farm, specializing in the direct sale (Monday to Saturday) of fruit and vegetables.
Enjoying a breathtaking view of the Palais des Papes, the market gardeners who operate this farm, which has been established for three generations, offer 150 varieties of fruit and vegetables, from tomatoes to eggplants, including zucchini, melons, strawberries and apricots.
From the center of Avignon, access is possible with the river shuttle, located at the foot of the Rocher des Doms, at the towpath.
