Pablo Celi will not resign from his position in the Comptroller General of the State. This was confirmed by his lawyer Marcelo Ron during an interview with EL COMERCIO, this June 25, 2021.

Yesterday (June 24, 2021) the Council for Citizen Participation (Cpccs) asked the Comptroller to step aside in order to appoint a new authority.
“The timely resignation of Dr. Celi would allow to resolve conflicts in the legal and moral sphere,” said the agency.
For the lawyer Ron, that is not the solution, because the institution would be left in an empty state. The jurist said that the Cpccs cannot appoint a alternate controller or temporary, because the Constitution does not allow that figure.
“Due to responsibility, Pablo Celi should appoint a sub-controller and entrust him with the functions of the Comptroller’s Office,” said Ron.
Celi is currently being held in Jail 4, with a warrant for preventive prison. He is on trial for alleged organized crime within a frame of corruption who would have operated in the Comptroller’s Office, Petroecuador and the Secretary of the Presidency.
